Why eStar

Tuition with support that keeps going between lessons

Meet the founder

Everyone can learn it. Not everyone’s been taught it.

A class of thirty is a difficult place to be noticed in, and somewhere along the way the few minutes your child needed on one particular topic quietly went to something else. Nobody did anything wrong, but the paper asked anyway, and they came home having decided they were simply bad at chemistry.

We’d gently suggest they aren’t. Everyone can learn it; not everyone’s been taught it.

I’m Esther, a fourth-year medical student at the Daily Mail’s University of the Year, and eSTAR is the small team of tutors I choose and train. We teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and English at GCSE, Biology and Psychology at A-level, and we help with applications to medicine.

We book by the hour, like everyone else does, but the hour isn’t really the thing you’re buying, the marks are, and those are what we keep a record of. Every student starts with a baseline, and after each session you’ll get a short written note, so you can watch the picture change rather than take our word for it.

A good deal of this is matching your child with the right tutor, then supporting and coaching them through the term, reading what an examiner is really asking, spotting where their own marks are leaking, keeping their nerve when a question looks unfamiliar, so that the success they end up with is properly theirs.

Every tutor is enhanced-DBS checked, and you’re welcome to sit in on any session.
